Torrey Pines is a municipal course owned by the City of San Diego, thirty-six holes on the cliffs above the Pacific in La Jolla, just south of the state reserve that protects the rare pine the course is named for. It opened in 1957 on the site of Camp Callan, a wartime army post, to a design by William Francis Bell. The PGA Tour has stopped here every winter since the late 1960s, using both courses.

The South Course has held two U.S. Opens. In 2008 Tiger Woods beat Rocco Mediate on the ninety-first hole, after an eighteen-hole Monday playoff, playing on a stress fracture and a torn ligament; it was the last U.S. Open decided by a full playoff. Jon Rahm won here in 2021. The South is 7,802 yards, par 72, with a rating of 78.8.
